Glue dots are normally used to affix samples or other small items such as business cards to mailing pieces. Sometimes items are affixed to other materials that are to be inserted into an envelope or special carrier and sometimes they are affixed directly to the carrier itself. The following shows how a product sample might be affixed to a backer card.

- The product sample to be glued to the backer card.
- The glue dot.
- An optional block of text relating to and/or describing the sample.
Glue dots come in different levels of “tack”, from low-tack to super high-tack. It is best to test glue dots at different levels for your particular application. With super high-tack glue dots, it is not uncommon for the glue to tear away leaving a marred finish on the item to which it was applied or on the item that was applied. Of course, you do want to ensure that you have enough tack so that the item does not fall off either. Usually your supplier can provide you with a few samples to test with before ordering in larger volumes.
Glue dots are a wonderful invention. Basically, they hold things in place, where you want them to be held. This could be applying a sample to backer card or it could be applying a product sample at specific location on a display ad in a magazine.
