Many promotional materials and newsletters are printed on both sides of an 11” X 17” sheet and then folded to 8.5” X 11”. This is acceptable as a self-mailer. However, if the piece is prepared as pre-sorted Addressed Admail and left at this size, the piece falls into the Oversize category, which is considerably more expensive than the Short/Long category. You can solve this problem simply, by folding the 8.5” X 11” piece once more to a finished size of 8.5“ X 5.5”. Of course, you will want to ensure that the second fold does not damage the aesthetic appearance of the mailing piece.
It should be noted that if the piece is prepared as Publications Mail, it would not have to be folded to the smaller size as there is no differentiation between Short/Long and Oversize with Publications Mail.
