There are many different types of window envelopes available. A quick search on “window envelope” on the web will return a variety of sites where you can look at these.
Some of the more common are:
Standard #10, single window envelope
This envelope features a single window for the recipient’s address.
Typically, this would be used for a personalized letter. The recipient’s name and address in the opening section of the letter would be structured to display through the window.
When using a window envelope, there is no requirement to match the name on the letter to the name on the envelope, as is the case when using standard, plain paper envelopes. This can cut costs and also eliminate the possibility of errors in matching pieces.

- Thin, transparent plastic window allows the mailing address to show through, usually from a personalized document contained in the envelope.
Standard #10, double window envelope
This envelope is identical to the standard #10, single window envelope, except that it has an additional window for the sender’s name and return address.
The main advantage of this type of window envelope is that you do not have to have them commercially printed. Your logo/graphics and return address on your letterhead (or other insert) become the return address information that is displayed through the window. You must ensure, however, that your logo/graphics and return address will adequately fit into the window, once inserted.

9” X 12” window envelope
A 9” X 12” window envelope can be used for mailing out larger items along with a personalized letter. For example this type of envelope is ideal for mailing our annual reports, catalogues etc.
Again, given as the recipients name and address from the opening of the letter are displayed through the window, there is no need to match up the letter with the envelope as is the case with plain paper envelopes.
