What is an indicia?
It is the term that Canada Post uses for the postal artwork that is pre-printed on certain classes of mail. If you look at the envelope that your phone bill comes in (in Canada), you will see a pre-printed box bearing the Canada Post logo. Inside this box you will see the term "Lettermail" and a customer permit number. The same artwork is used for Addressed Admail, except that the term "Addressed Admail" is used rather than "Lettermail".
Why is it important?
Any Addressed Admail mailing must have the indicia printed on the mailing piece, if the weight of the mailing piece is over 50 grams. Pieces weighing 50 grams or less can be metered, but an "Addressed Admail" plate must be used. If you plan an Addressed Admail mailing and forget to print the indicia on the mailing pieces and the pieces weigh more than 50 grams, you might have to re-print the mailing pieces or envelopes to include the indicia. Depending on the size of your mailing, this could be quite an additional expense (especially when it could have been done the first time the mailing pieces or envelopes were on the press - at no additional cost).
