Mailing Package Concepts

Welcome to the Mailing Package Concepts section of our website. In this section of our knowledge base, we review various options for packaging your direct mail message and discuss the associated benefits and caveats. It’s also fun to come up with new ideas for packaging, and we will be adding new ideas on an ongoing basis. So, please ensure to check back often.

As always, we do wish to express caution and ask that you please refer to our Mailing Package Concepts Caveats page before implementing any of these packaging concepts for your campaign(s). You will certainly want to ensure that it is within specifications and that delivery time frames are acceptable for your project.

Also, different designs serve different purposes. Some of the more complex concepts might be considered excessively expensive, whereas others are what we like to call “cheap and cheerful.” The best packaging concept will be dictated by the nature of your campaign or promotion. Even within large, international corporations, some mailings are prepared very high end packaging, while others are packaged quite modestly.

We have grouped the package design ideas within categories. As new design ideas are added, we will locate them within their respective categories and flag them as new. The primary categories are as follows:


Self-Mailers

Simple but effective, self-mailers require no external carriers. So enter here to learn different ways to prepare self-mailers and shed the cost of envelopes and other carriers.

Specialized Carriers

Specialized carriers allow you to give an extra bit of pop to your direct mail piece, by adding an element of intrigue through interesting shape, added volume.

Poly Presentations

Many publications are mailed in polybags, but they are used for other types of mail as well. They are usually less expensive than envelopes their transparency allows the contents to be viewed before the package is ever opened.

Envelopes

Probably the most common form of packaging for mail, envelopes come in a vast array of shapes and sizes. Learn about some of the different envelopes that can help perfect your direct mail campaign.

Think of these things as direct mail add-ons. By adding or implementing these items and concepts, you can tweak your piece however you’d like.
