Since 1938, the Canadian Cancer Society has been making a difference in people’s lives, one person at a time. We are a national, community-based organization of volunteers who are working towards making cancer history. Our mission is to eradicate cancer and enhance the quality of life of people living with cancer.
The Canadian Cancer Society:
- Funds research on all types of cancer.
- Offers comprehensive and credible information on cancer, risk reduction and treatment.
- Provides support for people living with cancer, family members and friends.
If you or someone you care about has been diagnosed with cancer, you probably have many questions and concerns. We offer support in the following ways:
- Peer Support- One-to-one and group support from others who have had a similar experience to yours.
- Transportation- For those who need help getting to and from their cancer-related appointments.
- Information for people living with cancer- The Canadian Cancer Society provides a wide range of supportive information for people living with cancer. Find information about pain management and nutrition, managing side effects, helping someone who has cancer and more.
- Support at cancer centres, lodges and community hospitals – Offers practical support for people at cancer treatment centres, lodges and hospitals.
- Cancer Information Service - The Cancer Information Service is a national, bilingual, toll-free service available to cancer patients, their families, the general public and healthcare professionals. This service offers comprehensive and credible information that is confidential and tailored to your needs. Call 1 888 939-3333 to speak with a trained Cancer Information Specialist.
- Smokers’ Helpline - A free, confidential telephone service offering support for quitting smoking. Trained quit specialists assist with developing a structured “Quit Plan”, answer your questions about quitting and refer you to services in your community. Call toll-free at 1-877-513-5333.
